Caraway is also known as meridian fennel or Persian cumin that comes from a biennial plant, Carum carvi. The seeds are harvested from this plant that is actually a member of the carrot family. Caraway seeds are technically considered a fruit and have a warm, pungent flavor similar to anise seed.
